BES teacher found guilty of 16 theft charges this week
(April 14, 2017) Buckingham Elementary teacher Dr. Steve Rorke was found guilty of 16 charges of theft less than $100 on Tuesday in Circuit Court in Snow Hill.
Judge Brian Shockley, who ruled in the case, acquitted Rorke of theft under $10,000, which is a felony.
Rorke, 50, of Berlin, was charged last September. According to the state’s online case search, several of the crimes were committed over a two-month period starting in February 2016.
Rorke is a reading and math resources teacher at Buckingham Elementary in Berlin. He was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 28, two days after charges were filed, according to Worcester County Public Schools spokesperson Carrie Sterrs.
Theft less than $100 is punishable by 90 days in prison or a $500 fine.
Rorke will reappear before the court in two months’ time for sentencing.
