By Kara Hallissey | May 18, 2017

(May 19, 2017) Fifty-three percent of students at Stephen Decatur Middle School participate in at least one day of after-school academy activities.

The school works with community members and businesses to offer a range of programs that align with classes the students are taking while also preparing them for high school.

Students can choose tutoring sessions, healthy cooking, photography and knitting classes, drama, marching band and STEM programs. They can also join the Future Teachers of America group or check out the Surfing into Integrity program.

The Stephen Decatur Middle School after-school academy does not receive any grants and is funded through community resources. In addition, 54 percent of middle school staff participate in the after-school academy.
