By Katie Tabeling | May 18, 2017

(May 19, 2017) The Worcester County Board of Education announced Tuesday that Buckingham Elementary teacher Dr. Steve Rorke had resigned from his post.

Rorke was placed on administrative leave in September, days after he was charged with theft.

The math resources teacher was found guilty of 16 charges of theft less than $100 by Judge Brian Shockley in Circuit Court last month. Theft less than $100 is punishable by 90 days in prison or a $500 fine.

Rorke was also acquitted of theft under $10,000, which is a felony.

According to Maryland case search, several of the crimes were committed over a two-month period starting in February 2016.

Rorke will be sentenced on June 23.
