(March 23, 2018) Country music star Josh Turner will perform at the convention center on 40th Street tonight, Friday, with Ocean City native Jimmy Charles and rising artist Mo Pitney opening the show.

As of Monday evening, a couple hundred tickets were still available for the country concert, taking place in the exhibit hall of the convention center.

“Josh Turner is a one-of-a-kind country singer with a one-of-a-kind voice that holds a traditional style along with modern day feel that leaves you with a smile and a sense of goodness as country music done right should,” Charles said.

From his 2003 platinum-selling debut, “Long Black Train,” to his most recent 2017 Billboard No. 1 release, “Deep South,” Turner has a number of hits including “Your Man,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “Firecracker,” “Would You Go with Me,” “All Over Me,” “Time Is Love” and his most recent, “Hometown Girl.”

In addition, the multi-platinum recording artist is one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry.

Turner performed during Springfest last May to a sellout crowd and Charles hopes to make it a second.

“I am excited for my hometown to see me on a big stage with amazing sound and hear the new music that I have been saving to unveil to them for the first time along with an all new merchandise line,” Charles said.

Charles is scheduled to perform acoustically at 8 p.m. for about 25 minutes with his fiddle player, Marie McGlone.

“It is where my songs began – with me and my guitar,” Charles said. “I’ll be retiring my 9-year-old Python Belly snake skin boots at this concert. They were the first real pair of cowboy boots I got when I first moved to Nashville.

“My late father bought them for me and I have worn them on every big stage I’ve been on, not to mention, hundreds of honkytonks,” he continued. “They mean the world to me and no better way to give them a boot-stomping farewell, then on a big stage for my hometown fans.”

The Stephen Decatur High School alum will be opening for upcoming country artist Pitney and headlining country star Turner.

“[Turner] was definitely one of my favorites growing up and I looked up to him in country music,” Charles said. “If you haven’t seen Josh Turner in concert you need to and if you have you already know to expect an amazing performance.”

Look forward to hearing “Country” “Clean Up On Aisle Five” and “Boy And A Girl Thing” from Pitney when he takes the stage.

Charles has opened for some of the biggest names in country music including Merle Haggard, Lady Antebellum, Montgomery Gentry and Kacey Musgraves. In addition, he was a contestant on American Idol Season 9 and earned a Top 50 spot on Nashville Star.

Charles was also recently named “Outstanding Young Tennessean of the Year” for his work with Zero Cancer and the many contributions he has made to several other nonprofits throughout the nation.

After the concert, Charles is hosting a private, VIP after-party, and meet and greet at Seacrets on 49th Street. Attendees are encouraged to obtain a VIP bracelet from Charles’ merchandise booth at the concert for free admission into Seacrets and the private bar area.

If you miss him on Friday, Charles will also perform at Dry Dock, on 28th Street, the following night, Saturday, March 24, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

“It’s not every day we get big country stars like Josh Turner in Ocean City,” Charles said. “Everyone should come out, it’s going to be an amazing time.”

Tickets for the show tonight, Friday, can be purchased by visiting the OC Box Office on 40th Street inside the convention center, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-551-SEAT or online at www.oceancityconcerts.com.
