(May 11, 2018) The Stephen Decatur baseball team earned the No. 1 seed in Section II of the 3A East Region and will host the No. 4 James M. Clippers on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Both teams received a first-round bye. This will be the third time the teams have met on the field this season.

Decatur (17-3) won the first meeting on March 28 in Berlin, 3-2. In Salisbury on April 26, Decatur came out on top, 9-2.

Decatur Coach Rich Ferro said the Seahawks are playing “consistent” baseball going into the playoffs.

Despite the advantage of playing on their home field, Ferro is a little concerned about the early start time. The Seahawks’ games usually begin at 4 p.m.

To be successful, Ferro said it would be important to “throw strikes and play clean defense, [and have] timely hitting.”

“We just need to focus and compete,” he said.

The winner will battle either No. 3 Northeast of Anne Arundel or No. 2 Chesapeake of Anne Arundel, on Tuesday.
