Margaret Lucille Ramsey Laughlin, 84, formerly of Ocean Pines, Maryland, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, John Lawrence Laughlin.

Margaret was born July 1, 1933 in Portland, Oregon. She was the daughter of the late William Elmer Ramsey and Josephine Resing Ramsey.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Laughlin of Charlottesville, Virginia; her son, John Laughlin of Chesapeake, Virginia; her daughter, Casey Sumpter and husband, Sam, of Bedford, Virginia; two grandsons, Collin and Chris Sumpter; her nephew, Mark Nielsen; and niece, Margaret Barton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Nielsen.

Margaret graduated from Whitman College with a degree in English. In addition to her career as a professional editor, she frequently put her talents to good use editing the newsletters of many of the organizations she was a member of.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Berlin where she loved to sing in the choir. She also spent many years singing with the Pinetones and Reston Chorales.

She loved to travel and visited all 50 states and many of the national parks over her lifetime. She also traveled to Canada, Mexico and Russia along with favorite trips to the major countries of Europe. She was an avid photographer and became a talented watercolor artist later in her life.

A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, May 12 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Berlin, Maryland at 2 p.m.
