No swimmers found in search

(June 30, 2017) A caller staying in a condominium near 100th Street and the beach reported seeing a man and woman enter the water Sunday night, but didn’t see them get back out, leading to a massive search that turned up nothing.

“The current and waves were very mild and there were no rip currents, so it’s highly unlikely anyone would have gotten swept offshore,” Lindsay Richard, OCPD information officer said.

The caller reported seeing a female enter the water, show signs of distress after which a male entered the ocean to go after her, Richard said.

The police and fire departments, Beach Patrol, state Department of Natural Resources, Coast Guard and the Maryland State Police’s Trooper 4 helicopter were all dispatched to survey the area and ocean, but were unable to locate anyone, Richard said.

Authorities interviewed potential witnesses in the same areas as the reported bathers, but were unable to find anyone to corroborate the caller’s report.
