Ocean City Police have identified the dead body found this morning as Ashley O’Connor, 30, of Plano, Texas.

Around 6:30 a.m., citizens reported seeing the body in the sand to city employees, who then alerted Ocean City dispatchers.

Ocean City Police Public Affairs Specialist Lindsay Richard said that Connor was found in a hole in the sand. There was no indication that she has washed onto the shore.

A missing person’s report for Connor was filed earlier this morning. Richard could not comment on who filed it.

Ocean City Police closed down a large portion of the beach for hours on Monday for an active death investigation. Ocean City Police Forensics Services Unit recovered the victim with assistance from Maryland State Police crime scene technicians.

Connor was removed from the beach around 4:15 p.m., and will be evaluated by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who will determine a cause and manner of death, according to a police press release.
