(May 11, 2018) The Stephen Decatur boys’ lacrosse team finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and earned the No. 2 seed in Section II of the 3A East Region.

“I think we’re ready,” Decatur Coach Scott Lathroum said. “Everyone got a lot of playing time this season. We’re looking forward to a good run in the playoffs.”

The Seahawks will host the No. 3 Chesapeake Cougars of Anne Arundel today, Friday, at 5 p.m. after both teams received a first-round bye.

“We’re playing at home and you can’t get a better scenario than that,” Lathroum said.

The teams scrimmaged each other during the preseason in mid-March and Lathroum remembered that Chesapeake was strong in the goal.

“They have an excellent goalie. We’re going to have to come out and play as hard as we can,” he said. “Defense, we’re good there. We have to run our offense, shoot well and be accurate with our shots, win face-offs and ground balls, and be physical with them.”

While Lathroum said the Seahawks would take the tournament one game at a time, they are also chomping at the bit to battle the James M. Bennett Clippers again. Bennett came from behind to beat Decatur, 12-8, on May 2 in Berlin.

Bennett, the 3A East Section II No. 1 seed, is scheduled to play the fourth-seeded Northeast Eagles of Anne Arundel, today. The winners of the Decatur-Chesapeake and Bennett-Northeast games will go head-to-head on Monday.
