(June 30, 2017) The 10th annual Sunset Park Party Nights will kick off Thursday, July 6, at Sunset Park on South Division Street in downtown Ocean City, at 7 p.m.

Every Thursday, a free concert will take place at Sunset Park from 7-9 p.m.

The event was first orchestrated by the Town of Ocean City and the Ocean City Development Corporation in 2007 and has since become a popular attraction for local residents and visitors alike.

“We worked with the Town of Ocean City to transform what was originally a dead-end street and turned it into a public park back in 2006, and then we felt like the park really needed to have special events to really get people to come down and spend some time there,” OCDC Executive Director Glenn Irwin said. “So that’s why we started in 2007 with the free concert events.”

Sunset Park is a public facility at the southern end of Ocean City, near the U.S. Coast Guard Station and directly across from the amusement park on the Boardwalk.

“Sunset Park Party Nights were created, not only to add to the list of Ocean City’s free family fun summer events, but also to highlight the natural beauty of Sunset Park,” Ocean City Communications Manager Jessica Waters said. “This event is a great way to showcase the beauty of the park, the bayside of Ocean City and great local talent.”

Children and adults, as well as pets, are welcome to attend the Sunset Park concerts. Beverages will be available for purchase courtesy of the Ocean City Boosters, including beer and wine. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs as no seating will be provided.

Most of the bands scheduled have performed during the event before, including Oh Boy, Tranzfusion, Lauren Glick, British Invasion Experience, Full Circle, Eclipse, Sir Rod and Funk Shue. Blind Wind will join the lineup this year.

According to Irwin, the concerts draw anywhere from 250-800 attendees at any given performance, depending on weather and the band playing that week.

“I think they’re generally impressed by the quality of the music,” Irwin said. “Depending on which week you come, each week will be of interest to different people. We do get some people who come every week, but a lot of people will come based upon their taste of music.”

Public parking is available for a small fee across the street from Sunset Park on Worcester Street. In addition, the south transit bus station is located across from the park for those who want to take the resort bus to a concert.

“If you are looking for an opportunity to enjoy a free concert while watching the sun set over the Isle of Wight Bay, then Sunset Park Party Nights are for you,” Waters said. “It’s a laid-back event with a cool and relaxing vibe. Whether you are on vacation or just looking for a date night with friends and family, this event is truly something the entire family can enjoy.”
