(May 19, 2017) Realtor.com has produced a video series on the home-buying process that offers a little brevity, plus some humor, in “The Home-Buying Process in Plain English” with Elizabeth Banks.

You may have seen some of the recent television ads promoting the use of realtor.com for home shopping online starring Elizabeth Banks. The more recent television campaign, called “Own Home,” depicts a series of dream sequences in which homebuyers imagine their dream home. Banks crashes in on their dreams with tips for how to find the real home on realtor.com.

“Home-Buying Process in Plain English” with Elizabeth Banks, is a five-episode series. The episodes are approximately two minutes in length and cover the following topics important to homebuyers (in quotes are summaries of the scripts for each episode):

Step 1: Knowing When You’re Ready—“Buying a home is so grown-up and impressive, but there are a few things you should think about before you start telling everyone how grown up and impressive you are.”

Step 2: Mortgage Lending 101—“Unless you have a boatload of cash under your mattress, buying a home usually costs more money than you currently have. First, you’ll need a competitively priced loan.”

Step 3: The Search—“You’re really doing it! You know what you can afford and you’ve got your pre-approval letter. But before you buy the home of your dreams, you’ve gotta find it first.”

Step 4: The Offer— “Here you are, ready to make an offer on your first home! And since you’re about to part with an insane amount of money, it’s time to get close to your Realtor.”

Step 5: Closing the Sale— “There is nothing more awesome than taking ownership of your new dream home. But before you do that, you better loosen up your writing hand. Did someone say paperwork?”

If you are new to the home-buying process, or if it’s been awhile since you’ve purchased a property, realtor.com’s new video series is a humorous way to familiarize yourself with the steps involved in buying a home and what to expect along the way.
