(May 11, 2018) The Worcester Prep girls’ lacrosse team wrapped up regular-season competition with a 19-6 victory over the Sussex Tech Ravens on Monday in Berlin.

“We focused on ball movement through the midfield, [and] clean passes and assisted goals. We really wanted most of the goals to be assisted and we wanted to perfect our plays,” Prep Coach Brooke Hahn said. “Defense did a good job getting the ball from their attack and moving it up the field to our attack.”

Senior captain Reese Gittelman led the Lady Mallards with three goals and an assist. Sophomores Carly Hoffman, a team captain, and Madison VanOrden and Quinn McColgan scored two goals apiece. VanOrden and McColgan also had an assist each. Hoffman won seven draws and VanOrden was successful on six of the ones she took.

Junior captain Delaney Abercrombie tallied one goal and four assists.

Senior captain Sophia Bandorick was not challenged while in goal for Worcester. She also had the opportunity to play some attack for the Berlin squad at the end of the game. Junior Clare DeMallie recorded two saves.

The Mallards will host the Saints Peter & Paul Sabres, today, Friday, for the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference championship game at 4 p.m.

When the two teams went head-to-head on April 23 in Berlin, Worcester won 11-10 in overtime. On May 2 in Easton, the Prep squad came out on top, 13-7.

To capture the championship title, Hahn said would take “intensity, heart and honing in our skills.”

“If we can play how we played up there, with the intensity and the heart, then we should be fine because we have the talent,” Hahn said. “It’s just them wanting it. I know they wanted it last week.  That’s what we need to focus on to win the championship.”
